Planet Fitness Anchorage: A Comprehensive Review

Located at 670 E Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage, AK 99503, Planet Fitness is an affordable gym option for fitness enthusiasts in Alaska. This facility offers various amenities and accessibility features, making it a popular choice among locals.

Accessibility

Planet Fitness in Anchorage prides itself on being accessible to everyone. The gym features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring that all members can enter and enjoy the facilities comfortably. This focus on accessibility helps foster a welcoming environment for individuals with varying abilities.

Amenities

The array of amenities at Planet Fitness includes tanning beds, hydro massage tables, and a variety of cardio and weight training equipment. However, some members have expressed concerns about the availability and maintenance of this equipment, noting that machines are often out of order or not cleaned regularly.

Membership Required

To utilize the facilities and services offered by Planet Fitness, a membership is required. While the membership fees are competitive, the cancellation policy has raised several eyebrows among users. Many have reported difficulties when attempting to cancel their memberships, often facing pressure to come into the facility to do so, despite the new laws stating "one-click" cancellation should be available.

Planning Your Visit

Planning your visit to Planet Fitness may require some foresight, especially during peak hours when the gym tends to get crowded. Regular users have noted that finding available equipment can be a challenge during these busy times, particularly for weight lifting areas. It's advisable to check the gym's traffic patterns and schedule your workouts during off-peak hours for a more enjoyable experience.

Wi-Fi and Other Considerations

For those who need internet access while working out, Planet Fitness does offer Wi-Fi. However, the atmosphere can sometimes be distracting due to the presence of cell phones on the gym floor, which can lead to interruptions during workouts. Staff enforcement of gym etiquette has been a concern for some members who wish for a more focused environment.

Conclusion

While Planet Fitness in Anchorage provides a range of affordable options for fitness enthusiasts, it’s essential to be aware of the potential challenges associated with membership, especially regarding the cancellation process. The focus on accessibility and wide-ranging amenities makes it a strong choice for many, but prospective members should consider their personal needs and preferences before joining.

Overall, if you’re seeking a budget-friendly gym that accommodates a diverse clientele, Planet Fitness might be worth a try. Just be prepared to navigate some customer service hurdles along the way.

Convenient access in the old Sears mall at their new midtown spot. The equipment is top-notch and well-maintained. No need to wait long for your favorite machines! 😊
Madison Powell (6/3/25, 1:32 PM):
It appears to be a great bargain at first, with the impression that it's just for a year. However, three years down the line, they are STILL deducting a significant amount from your account every month. Moreover, these 24-hour PF gyms seem to attract all kinds of individuals, including those who use it as their personal bathhouses due to the low cost that makes it accessible to everyone. Personally, I would recommend the Alaska Club all day without hesitation!
Victoria Cruz (6/2/25, 11:40 PM):
Great stuff, you just can't top the value for money here. I must say, I've really managed to get myself into decent shape over the past year of hitting the gym and have shed about 25 pounds, so I'm definitely pleased with the results. Cheers to the gym!
Kimberly Hill (5/31/25, 7:51 PM):
The gym was exceptionally clean and the staff did a great job maintaining hygiene standards. It's definitely the best place to work out, although it would be even better if they had a sauna area.
Zoey Young (5/31/25, 4:42 AM):
The pricing is spot on, but I do wish there were a greater selection of benches and smith machines available.
Roger Coleman (5/30/25, 5:21 PM):
It's quite affordable, I never really engage in conversations with anyone, and the equipment always appears to be well-maintained. A fantastic gym for a laid-back fitness journey.
Vincent Green (5/30/25, 3:27 AM):
I must say, the cancellation policy at this gym is utterly absurd. It seems like cancelling anything else these days can be done with a few clicks online or a quick phone call, but not here. For some reason, this gym insists on making it as difficult as possible to cancel a membership. Why on earth do they require a certified letter or an in-person visit? Do I need to provide a passport, a blood sample, and a doctor's note just to prove my case for cancelling? It's a gym, for goodness sake! We're just here to lift weights, not launch rockets into space. Time to get your act together and make things easier for your members.
Juan Foster (5/27/25, 12:44 PM):
There are new laws in place that require subscriptions and memberships to have a "one-click" cancellation option.
This gym not only fails to comply with that, but they will persistently pester you to come in person to cancel. Interestingly enough, I did cancel back in June of 2022.
I have evidence of the numerous phone calls and emails I made in an attempt to cancel, not even asking for a refund, just trying to stop any further charges. It took multiple attempts before I finally received a callback. The person I spoke to was incredibly rude and, unsurprisingly, it only took her 5 seconds to cancel it.
I'm not one to complain, but this situation needs to be shared. I will also be forwarding all documentation to the Better Business Bureau and seeking legal advice.
Vincent Nguyen (5/26/25, 6:59 PM):
I must say, I had quite a positive experience at this establishment, especially with our black card membership. However, things took a turn for the worse when my fiancé and I decided to cancel our membership due to a family tragedy and financial difficulties towards the end of 2024. To my dismay, I noticed some questionable charges on my account post-cancellation.

I was charged $69 unexpectedly, followed by two separate charges of $25 each within a span of three days, all of which occurred a month after we had terminated our membership. What perplexes me the most is the lack of explanation for the $69 charge. It does not align with the annual dues nor does it match the monthly membership fees, which are usually billed separately at $25 each.

My disappointment with Planet Fitness has grown considerably. I am open to revising my rating to a 5-star if someone from management or corporate would take the time to reach out to me and provide the refund that I rightfully deserve. These funds were withdrawn without my consent or authorization, and the timing, occurring over a month post-cancellation, only adds to the frustration.
