Allow me to begin by saying this place is absolutely splendid. I commenced my journey with Nexus around a year and a half ago and cherish every moment spent there. The instructors are quite knowledgeable and always willing to address any queries I may have. The training atmosphere and overall vibe in the gym are imbued with encouragement and positive attitudes. My training buddies, some of whom also serve as my coaches, are truly exceptional. They collaborate with me and dedicate time from their own training to practice something I am focusing on or assist me in overcoming any challenges I may be facing. The schedule is extensive and accommodates everyone's availability for training. The facility offers ample space and, most importantly, it is spotless!!! I cannot emphasize enough how positively I feel about Nexus. If you have been contemplating checking it out or joining, please do not miss the opportunity to be part of this exceptional training venue.

I 'ave recently relocated to Cape Cod and was keen on gettin' out of the 'ouse, makin' some mates, and learnin' a new martial art. I began my journey in BJJ at SBG East in August 2018 and have been smitten with it ever since. The folks there are a friendly lot, the instructors are knowledgeable and always offer a sound explanation for each move. I am thrilled to 'ave found me 'ome away from 'ome. My nipper is a mere 6 months old, and I can't wait for the day 'e can start training at SBG!

I've been attending Muay Thai classes for around a month now, and I must say it's been absolutely fantastic. I intend to continue training at this gym for the foreseeable future. The variety of programs they provide offers flexibility in my schedule, and the workouts are both practical and enjoyable. The quality of instruction is top-notch, and you can quickly see the professionalism of the gym after just a few sessions. The overall atmosphere is consistently positive and uplifting, and the coaches are all incredibly friendly. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to start their MMA journey or searching for a great place to get in shape.

I did 4 private sessions with Tim while visiting up here. He's a fantastic bloke and a top-notch instructor. I really appreciated his teaching approach, focusing on principles rather than specific positions. It just clicked for me, and I can't wait to test out these new techniques when I get back to my regular gym.

SBG had a promising start, I must say. I enlisted my son and he was thrilled. He enjoyed the instructors, his fellow students, and the program. The facilities were impeccable. They were diligent in cleaning up any messes and ensuring the safety of the children by having them wear mouth guards. The pricing was a tad steep, but we'd do anything for our kids, right? Classes were held twice a week and we lived about 40 minutes away. However, after nearly a year, I realized we had been deceived. I had been paying for my son to learn far less compared to other dojos. There was only one main coach and perhaps one or two junior coaches per class, who struggled to manage some students unable to focus (not blaming the kids - blaming the lack of coaches). The coach wanted him to advance to the next level, where he would gain sparring experience as the introductory level had very little sparring time, and receive a "special" blue Gi at a higher monthly cost and commit to a 2-year contract. What 5-year-old can commit to something for 2 years? The termination fee exceeded a thousand dollars and while it would gradually decrease over time, it still felt exorbitant to me. I couldn't agree to it and it shattered my son's heart that he couldn't progress. How could he compete without any sparring experience? They essentially backed me into a corner because there was no way for my son to advance without paying more and committing to a 2-year contract. I feel like SBG prioritizes money over the children. I transferred my son to another dojo, closer to home, run by a small family, with at least 4 coaches per class (no junior coaches - only adult coaches), and they were astonished at how little he had learned after being at SBG for 11 months. Other kids with the same amount of time at their dojo had more skills, more sparring experience, and were already competing. For a lower monthly fee (and no contract!), he could choose any Gi color he liked, no "special" Gis, everyone participated, sparred at EVERY class, had classes 3 times a week, retained his belt rank, and progressed at a faster rate than at SBG. Although the new dojo focuses solely on BJJ whereas SBG included some Muay Thai training, I believe the family-run business genuinely cares about their students. My son has forged a strong bond with his new coach in a way I never imagined possible. The gym is a brand-new facility and is constantly pristine with authentic sparring mats. We've been here for 3 months now and will never return to SBG. Never... I'm not promoting the new dojo, though I am tempted to! So, I won't even mention its name in this review... but just know, if you're reading this, do your child a favor... look elsewhere.

Hey Steve, just wanted to express my gratitude for all the teaching and hospitality you and the SBG tribe offered during my time in Massachusetts. Your teaching style has had a huge impact on my BJJ journey. I received my black belt yesterday, and I credit much of my success to your approach. Cheers!
Megan Gutierrez (4/21/25, 10:09 PM):
Top-notch teaching at a top-notch venue. Enjoyable and welcoming for individuals of all ages and abilities. You'd be doing yourself a disfavor by practicing martial arts anywhere else.
Aaron Cook (4/17/25, 10:22 PM):
It’s quite rare I write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one. Firstly, being 60 years old, life sometimes gets in the way of pursuing things we wished we had done in our youth. I now have some free time and wanted formal training and a cardio workout. I looked into boxing programs in the Boston area but felt I would be lost in the crowd. SBG kept popping up on Facebook, so I dropped in and signed up for a complimentary lesson in Muay Thai. I was immediately hooked! If you're curious about all the Tribe talk, here's the gist of it: Some of the clearly more advanced practitioners join the beginners for a workout and generously share their knowledge. Egos are left at the entrance. Every coach, every member contributes their wisdom. In the past three months, I've been humbled and have learned so much. You'll reap what you sow in this community. There is something for everyone here. Don’t wait as long as I did, take the leap today. Become a part of this exceptional facility and be part of the Tribe!!

Yours sincerely,
Brian Jordan

Lauren Sanders (4/17/25, 8:16 PM):
Coach Steve is one of the most sought-after seminar instructors that we have the pleasure of hosting annually. His teachings on Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are truly exceptional, offering a curriculum that strikes the perfect balance between challenging and accessible. If you happen to be in the Wareham area, I highly suggest making your way to SBG East Coast for an unforgettable experience with some exceptionally welcoming individuals.
Tyler Cook (4/16/25, 9:13 AM):
I've trained at various gyms throughout the country, and I've never experienced the same kind of atmosphere as I have at SBG East Coast. The instructors are expertly trained and approachable, and the teammates are welcoming and free from ego, creating a highly rewarding training environment. They encourage individualism among students and teach highly effective and practical techniques to help develop well-rounded and dynamic grapplers/strikers. Whether you're looking to train in BJJ, Muay Thai, MMA, or improve your fitness with one of their workout programs, there's no better place in the area than SBG East Coast.
Douglas Bailey (4/14/25, 5:04 PM):
SBG East coast is definitely one of the finest martial arts academies in the vicinity. The coaching is truly exceptional and their program is run with great expertise. Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned competitor, this is the place to be. I always eagerly anticipate my training sessions there.
Charlotte Fisher (4/14/25, 12:31 AM):
I joined SBG a few months back, inspired by my son who had already been attending classes for a year. He's a big fan and I wanted to shed some pounds, so I signed up for the foundation muay thai class. Initially, my goal was simply weight loss, and I'm thrilled to report that I've successfully shed 10lbs! Surprisingly, what began as a weight loss journey has morphed into a genuine passion. I eagerly anticipate delving deeper into new skills and techniques. Currently, I train twice a week and also book private sessions. Massive thanks to the team for the fantastic classes - looking forward to more! :)
Wayne Powell (4/10/25, 12:24 PM):
I find meself workin' long 'ours at a right stress-inducin' job, and let me tell ya, SBG provides a much-needed outlet for stress relief. The facilities are top-notch, always well maintained and cleaned regularly. Equally important are the coaching staff, a friendly bunch always up for a bit o' banter. But what really matters is their knowledge about the martial arts they teach. I could go on about their accolades, like winning tournaments multiple times, but the way they run their program is what truly sets 'em apart. If ye be thinkin' about joinin' a martial arts gym, ye won't find better than SBG.
Betty Walker (4/8/25, 8:15 PM):
I started training in martial arts when I was 15 years old, which was 11 years back. I trained until I was 19 before joining the military, and let me tell you, the discipline I gained from this school was incredibly helpful in preparing me for my military service. Whenever I come home, I always make sure to visit my martial arts family and get some sparring rounds in – you really can't find a better gym!
Martha Anderson (4/6/25, 5:55 AM):
Joining SBG East Coast has been one of the most top-notch decisions I’ve ever made. The coaches, no doubt, are the finest in the region. They are absolutely outstanding individuals, incredibly skilled, and exceedingly knowledgeable. They will bend over backwards to help you enhance and hone your skills in BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA. I am truly impressed by their dedication to the progress of each and every person.

This gym is spotless and equipped with everything required to achieve your goals. The community is genuinely unique, and the members are welcoming. I have forged incredible friendships in the year since becoming a member.

Big props to Coach Steve, Coach Murphy, Coach Parker, Coach Tim, Coach Mal, and Coach Kasey!

Spotless gym, welcoming folks, top-notch gear. A splendid spot to sweat it out. Fabulous ambiance, mate.
Rose Rivera (4/3/25, 11:35 AM):
I 'ave been a member of this gym for about 18 months. My 'usband and I 'ave two small children and I was really lookin' for some place to go and 'ave some “me” time and unwind. My friend invited me to their “buddy week” where I attended a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class for free and I was hooked. The gym 'as been very welcomin' (I 'ave no experience); there is a wonderful community of ladies, and all of the men and women I’ve met 'ave not only been wonderful training partners but good friends too. I come 'ome very refreshed and am grateful to 'ave found such a wonderful gym.
