My lad 'as been comin' to this place for abaht a year and 'alf now. In this time, I've seen him grow in 'is mental and physical strength... along with self-discipline. 'E told me a few months ago 'e saw a group of kids pickin' on another kid. 'E told the bullies to bugger off and they left the other kid alone... not sure 'e would 'ave 'ad that confidence to do that even a few years ago! The coaches do a bang up job teachin' and trainin' the students. I'm chuffed I found this place!

GB Ahwatukee is absolutely fantastic! I honestly cannot express how impressed I am with them. We popped in one day to watch my goddaughter, and from that moment on, my daughter was eager to give a class a go. After experiencing the free session, she was hooked and wanted to enroll right away! Professor Luis and Coach Josie are truly outstanding. Although my daughter is relatively new to Jiu-Jitsu, she is thoroughly enjoying the experience. Whether you're interested in self-defense, learning BJJ, enhancing your skills, or even competing, this place caters to everyone, regardless of their level. We have had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful kids and parents, and we absolutely adore the family-friendly atmosphere that greets us every time we enter GB Ahwatukee! I've been training at this martial arts school for quite some time now, and let me tell you, Professor Luis and his wife are truly remarkable individuals. They are incredibly humble and down to earth, making everyone feel welcome and valued. The visiting professors who come here are top-notch black belt competitors, yet they are always willing to help out beginners and lower-ranked students without hesitation.
What I love about this school is that they emphasize that competition is optional. While they do encourage it, they never pressure or guilt anyone into participating. Gracie Barra Ahwatukee has truly become a second home and family to us. All of my children are actively involved, whether they have a passion for competing or simply enjoy the workout aspect. The Professors and coaches offer unwavering support and create a welcoming community for all.
I particularly appreciate the structured nature of the classes, where respect and hard work are instilled in every session. The dedication that the professors and coaches show towards the children is remarkable, as they share their love for jiu-jitsu with infectious enthusiasm and pride. It's reassuring to see that these instructors are individuals of strong character, especially when it comes to the values my children are learning from them.
After observing my children train for 8 months, I finally gathered the courage to join the GBF (ladies only) class. Even at my highest weight, I was made to feel comfortable and assured that there was a place for me within the group. It has been a rewarding experience to learn alongside my children.

This review has been a long time in coming. When we decided to introduce sports into our daughter's life, we initially started with the typical soccer and softball teams. While she enjoyed herself, she wasn't quite hooked. Then, we thought of giving the local BJJ gym a shot. Her first day was tough, but on the second day, she walked out with a smile and has been going ever since. I have been a student at Professor Luis Freire's school since it opened in 2017, under the guidance of Coaches Lucas and Aso. Jiu-Jitsu has proven to be one of the most demanding and fulfilling pursuits I have ever undertaken.
Gracie Barra provides a unique experience for those interested in learning Self Defense and Jiu-Jitsu. What stands out to me the most is the commitment that GB puts into developing their Professors and Instructors through a comprehensive and modern instructor certification program. GB also offers a structured curriculum that allows individuals to establish a strong foundation in the fundamentals and progress to more advanced aspects of BJJ. I have attended other schools where there was little structure, with coaches simply demonstrating techniques without a clear learning path for students. GB's curriculum provides a roadmap for student success.
I also had the opportunity to visit a Gracie Barra school in Portland, OR, while visiting family. It was fantastic to be warmly welcomed and train with a fantastic group of individuals. With Gracie Barra having numerous schools worldwide, I aspire to visit as many as possible.
It is essential to recognize that BJJ will not only teach you about the martial art but also about yourself. It requires dedication from both the student and the instructors. At GB Ahwatukee and all GB Arizona schools, you will find this dedication in abundance.
