Edward Ortiz (6/14/25, 6:08 AM):
My lad has been learning the ways of Selah Goju Ryu since he was a wee lad of 5 with the little dragons program, and he's now gearing up to test for his JR black belt come this February at the tender age of 10. Sensai's Andy, Tigger and the Senpais have a knack for understanding the young ones and tailoring their approach to make sure the children not only learn karate but also life skills in an enjoyable manner. Regarding the previous review where a parent was advised not to intervene with a new student's corrections, there's always a method behind a teacher's actions. It's all about fostering a desire for self-improvement and learning autonomously. Critiques are part of the process at every level, evolving as one progresses. By nurturing a beginner's confidence at the start of their journey, you're not tearing them down but rather building them up, fueling their eagerness to absorb more knowledge. Only then do you begin refining the skills they've started to grasp. Interfering as a parent to correct your child undermines the expertise and authority of the teacher or Sensai/Senpai. Establishing a strong bond with a student is crucial for effective teaching, and the approach taken at Selah Goju Ryu is truly remarkable. A fantastic organization rooted in family values. --------------posted Eric Neumeyer
