Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA: A Community Hub in Adrian, Michigan

The Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA in Adrian, Michigan, serves as a vital community hub, offering various on-site services tailored to meet the needs of local residents. With an emphasis on accessibility, this non-profit organization strives to create an inclusive environment for everyone, including those with disabilities.

Accessibility Features

One of the standout features of the Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA is its commitment to accessibility. The facility boasts a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all visitors can navigate the premises comfortably. Moreover, the YMCA has implemented measures to cater to individuals with physical challenges, including a hoist for the pool, making it easy for everyone to enjoy aquatic activities.

On-Site Services and Activities

The YMCA offers various on-site services that cater to all ages. Families can enjoy a well-maintained indoor pool, a small gym, and a fantastic outdoor playground that is open to the public. The center frequently hosts kid-friendly activities, including basketball games and other sports, which are paramount for keeping younger members engaged.

However, some visitors have expressed concerns regarding the facility's layout. While it has much to offer, the space can feel claustrophobic, particularly in the exercise areas where equipment is tightly packed together. Despite this, many patrons appreciate the clean and modern facilities, which boast up-to-date gym equipment and well-maintained locker rooms.

Service Options and Feedback

The Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA provides various service options, from group fitness classes to child care. Parents can work out while knowing their children are being cared for nearby. However, feedback from visitors indicates inconsistencies in staff responsiveness and customer service. While some staff members have been commended for their friendliness and helpfulness, others have received criticism for their lack of professionalism, particularly at the front desk.

In light of these mixed reviews, the YMCA continues to evolve. Recent improvements in cleanliness and overall organization have prompted some long-time members to change their reviews positively. Notably, those who previously experienced issues with the pool’s temperature have seen improvements, enhancing the overall experience for families using the facility.

A Place for Everyone

In conclusion, the Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA stands out as a community-focused organization in Adrian, Michigan. Its accessibility features, range of on-site services, and dedication to improvement make it a valuable asset to residents. While there are areas to enhance, particularly regarding customer service, the center remains a welcoming space for families and individuals of all ages. If you’re looking for a place to stay active, socialize, and enjoy family-friendly activities, this YMCA is worth a visit.

I absolutely adore this establishment. The gym fees are just brilliant, especially the rates for becoming a member and accessing the entire facility. I particularly enjoy the pool too!
Ronald Smith (6/9/25, 4:45 PM):
How come a community-based non-profit organization doesn't provide day passes? Furthermore, why is your pricing significantly higher compared to other YMCAs I have visited?
Leonard James (6/8/25, 3:00 PM):
I am utterly appalled by the behavior of the member services team. They continued to charge me after I had canceled my membership. To make matters worse, Renee was incredibly rude and condescending during our phone conversation. Despite promises, they never reached out to schedule an assessment for my family to use the machines. Absolutely deplorable service.
Jose Wilson (6/3/25, 5:15 AM):
My family absolutely adores the YMCA. Our daughters take their swim lessons there. The only wee little quibble I have is the lack of adequate seating by the pool for us parents.
Debra Edwards (6/2/25, 1:10 PM):
A fantastic spot for the whole family and youth athletics, I must say!
Betty Robinson (6/2/25, 12:59 AM):
We've been members of this non-profit organization for the past two winters, as we usually just purchase a seasonal membership to swim and find activities to escape the winter blues. We have been extremely satisfied with our experience! The facility is excellent, with a great basketball court where they frequently host kid-friendly activities, a pool with fun features, a steam room, a small gym, a fantastic outdoor playground (which is open to the public), as well as a small indoor playground, and I'm sure there are other amenities I'm forgetting! Our kids absolutely love it ❤️

(On a side note, it appears that the moderator of this organization may need to review the photos that some people have posted, as there are images that do not belong to this place.)

Lovely family-friendly entertainment!
Joe Ford (5/31/25, 8:37 AM):
I recently took my niece to the non-profit organization for swim lessons. The instructors were decent, however, I did find it to be a tad on the pricey side.
Daniel Bailey (5/30/25, 10:25 AM):
I must say, the staff do seem to be a tad lackadaisical in their approach.
Austin Scott (5/30/25, 4:24 AM):
It could do with a bit of sprucing up to give it a more modern and polished look.
Kyle Campbell (5/28/25, 3:19 PM):
Serves the community admirably, with a plethora of activities to engage in.
Robert Lopez (5/26/25, 6:10 PM):
I must say, I truly appreciate the YMCA. It is a wonderful establishment where individuals of all ages engage in physical activities. The ethos of respect is palpable, as everyone conscientiously cleans the equipment after use. Currently, the pool is restricted to a maximum of five people at a time, with priority often given to children. It's clear that safety measures are being followed, as the sauna remains closed for the time being.
Theresa Bennett (5/23/25, 9:58 AM):
We absolutely adore the YMCA! I work as a lifeguard at the (indoor) pool. The family changing rooms are simply fantastic. Bringing my kids here brings me immense joy.
Gabriel Howard (5/21/25, 2:20 AM):
At this non-profit organization, they offer complimentary fitness sessions for their members, including cycling and boot camp classes. How fantastic is that?
Melissa Jones (5/19/25, 9:31 PM):
Returned after a lengthy hiatus, as the conditions at this establishment were previously subpar. It appears that the current management is now quite efficient!

The pool, changing rooms, and restrooms are now warm and spotless. This is primarily why we maintain our membership. They have also revamped the features in the kids' splash area. If you ceased visiting before due to the chilly atmosphere, I recommend giving it another chance.

I have upgraded my rating from 3 to 5 stars.
Edward Peterson (5/18/25, 8:36 AM):
I wouldn't bother with the new YMCA. It's quite a hassle to get to, with fewer amenities than the old Y (no lap swimming pool, no weight room, no mini-gym). To make matters worse, you're required to commit to a full year if you want to join... Extremely disappointing experience.
Christina Myers (5/16/25, 11:42 AM):
There ain't no better way to kick start me day than with the morning brekkie workout crew. This bunch of regulars sure know how to make the 5 am sweat sesh a hoot!
Willie Rogers (5/14/25, 8:33 PM):
Our first experience at the new facility was disappointing to say the least. As soon as we walked in and had my card scanned, there seemed to be a problem with my December payment. The staff members began talking among themselves, giving off an annoyed vibe about the declined payment. Despite being long-time members with a reliable payment history, they made us feel like it was our fault for the issue. I offered different payment methods, but they seemed uninterested in resolving the issue promptly. When I suggested that my husband take our toddler for a swim while I sorted out the payment, I was rudely denied that option.

After a frustrating ten minutes, another employee acknowledged the facility's ongoing payment issues since its recent opening. It was baffling to be treated as if we were at fault during that time. Eventually, I had to re-register as a Y member, even though we had been loyal members for years. By the time we could finally start swimming, we were informed of incorrect chemical levels in the pool, resulting in an early closure. Disappointed, we tried to go to the gym instead, only to find it closed early as well.

Our overall first visit left much to be desired, and my children were understandably disappointed. Hopefully, the staff can become friendlier and the organization more organized for better experiences in the future.
Kenneth Ortiz (5/12/25, 3:21 AM):
This establishment is truly lovely, I attend for physiotherapy sessions. It's quite spacious with all the necessary equipment, the locker rooms are a good size, and they even have a hoist for the pool to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Nathan Powell (5/12/25, 1:27 AM):
I must say, I had a rather unpleasant experience with them. Despite canceling my subscription, they still attempted to charge me the following month. Absolutely outrageous!
