Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA: A Community Hub in Adrian, Michigan

The Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA in Adrian, Michigan, serves as a vital community hub, offering various on-site services tailored to meet the needs of local residents. With an emphasis on accessibility, this non-profit organization strives to create an inclusive environment for everyone, including those with disabilities.

Accessibility Features

One of the standout features of the Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA is its commitment to accessibility. The facility boasts a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all visitors can navigate the premises comfortably. Moreover, the YMCA has implemented measures to cater to individuals with physical challenges, including a hoist for the pool, making it easy for everyone to enjoy aquatic activities.

On-Site Services and Activities

The YMCA offers various on-site services that cater to all ages. Families can enjoy a well-maintained indoor pool, a small gym, and a fantastic outdoor playground that is open to the public. The center frequently hosts kid-friendly activities, including basketball games and other sports, which are paramount for keeping younger members engaged.

However, some visitors have expressed concerns regarding the facility's layout. While it has much to offer, the space can feel claustrophobic, particularly in the exercise areas where equipment is tightly packed together. Despite this, many patrons appreciate the clean and modern facilities, which boast up-to-date gym equipment and well-maintained locker rooms.

Service Options and Feedback

The Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA provides various service options, from group fitness classes to child care. Parents can work out while knowing their children are being cared for nearby. However, feedback from visitors indicates inconsistencies in staff responsiveness and customer service. While some staff members have been commended for their friendliness and helpfulness, others have received criticism for their lack of professionalism, particularly at the front desk.

In light of these mixed reviews, the YMCA continues to evolve. Recent improvements in cleanliness and overall organization have prompted some long-time members to change their reviews positively. Notably, those who previously experienced issues with the pool’s temperature have seen improvements, enhancing the overall experience for families using the facility.

A Place for Everyone

In conclusion, the Frank and Shirley Dick Family YMCA stands out as a community-focused organization in Adrian, Michigan. Its accessibility features, range of on-site services, and dedication to improvement make it a valuable asset to residents. While there are areas to enhance, particularly regarding customer service, the center remains a welcoming space for families and individuals of all ages. If you’re looking for a place to stay active, socialize, and enjoy family-friendly activities, this YMCA is worth a visit.

My grandkids, a strapping lad and a lovely lass, are part of the basketball squad over at the YMCA. It's quite a splendid establishment, I must say.
Marilyn Mitchell (4/28/25, 1:37 PM):
I attended the martial arts event to watch my grandsons practice their martial arts skills. It was such a joy to see them in action and witness their dedication and passion for this discipline.

The staff at the non-profit organization was incredibly helpful and informative! I visited to inquire about membership pricing and the secretary was more than happy to address all of my inquiries thoroughly. She even went above and beyond to print out any pamphlets that were not readily available. The environment was well-maintained and orderly, with amenities like coffee for adults and popcorn for kids.

I am particularly excited about their child care services on select days, allowing parents to work out in the fitness room with peace of mind. This offering alone persuaded me to become a member. The warm staff and complimentary coffee are definitely added bonuses!

I am also considering enrolling myself and my children in Black Dragon's Den, the karate academy based at the organization.

I absolutely adore stepping foot into this establishment! The front desk staff never fails to give me a warm welcome on each of my visits. The equipment is top-notch and in excellent working order. Every corner of this facility is spotless, from the restrooms and showers, to the pool, gym, and weight room. This YMCA truly is a gem for our town and has made a significant positive impact in the community in recent years!
Diane Graham (4/24/25, 10:09 AM):
The pool manager only shares updates with her lifeguards and not the water aerobics instructors, leading to conflicts and verbal altercations among members. As a result, one of the instructors had to resign this summer because of this situation.
