All is well, chap. The staff is jolly good and the gym is spotless. However, the 4-star rating is due to the lack of FULL SETS of kettlebells in the designated area. I departed from PF specifically because kettlebells over 30lbs are not available. Cheers!
I absolutely adored this gym about half a year back. However, presently, the subpar hygiene in the locker rooms, the haphazard scattering of dumbbells throughout the fitness center, the lackadaisical and indifferent attitude of the front desk staff, the abysmal choice of music during evening hours (it seems like a personal playlist—could we please opt for better tunes?), and the numerous pieces of malfunctioning equipment have led to a significant decline in the quality of this establishment. As a spacious gym, maintaining consistently high standards necessitates a dedicated effort from EVERY member of the team. It's becoming increasingly evident that a culture of mediocrity is being normalized and tolerated at present.
The workout was spot on, but the gym's condition seems to have regressed. There used to be a time when it was overcrowded with people, and now it's filled with too much equipment crammed into every available space. The layout near the treadmill machines is abysmal, with terrible spacing. Furthermore, I was told this past Saturday that the cleaning crew doesn't work on weekends, resulting in areas like the locker room being in a dreadful state. It's clear that the management is not meeting any standards.
The Capital heights location is quite rundown, and the manager Briani should be replaced. It's better to go to Bowie instead! The speakers don't work and need to be fixed. Due to weight and dance classes, women pay the highest membership fees and are often treated with disrespect at this gym. Heavy equipment is not returned to its racks promptly, causing delays in our classes. People frequently interrupt our sessions to grab equipment, and now they've reduced our space even further by placing weight racks at the rear of the room and cycle storage at the front, which could easily be rearranged. I'm seriously considering initiating a class action lawsuit for gender or sex discrimination with the support of other members if this situation persists. Management seems unresponsive to members' complaints, as evidenced by the lack of action taken to address these issues.
I've decided to engage in this gym as I desired to relish the communal facet of exercising. It turns out individuals aren't particularly sociable around these parts. I could undertake all the activities right within the coziness of my abode since I possess all the necessary equipment. I cycle 9 miles at least two times per week simply to connect with folks keen on exercising as much as I am. Currently, my social life there is non-existent. Nevertheless, overall Ritchie Station boasts an exceedingly high standard of living and quality of life; hence, the location is impeccable but the gym truly seals the deal. I adore the personnel there, every single one of them exudes immense respect and possesses outstanding customer service capabilities, you can distinctly perceive the great deal of consideration put into constructing this gym. The sole issue I encounter pertains to the patrons (which the gym cannot do much about). I yearn for a more sociable ambiance, but, hey, who really goes to the gym to mingle? Perhaps a bar would render the atmosphere more convivial, just saying. And hats off to my semi-personal trainer DANIEL CASTRO, he is an exceptional trainer and will go above and beyond to simplify your life. 🤷 Additionally, the fact that they have a recovery room and a childcare facility is praiseworthy 🙌🛐🙏😂 I'd award it a five-star rating.
The negatives:
Lockers in the changing rooms are partially broken.
There is a persistent odor in the locker rooms that could use an air purifier.
Free weights can be tricky to find as they tend to disappear around the gym.
Some machines, while effective, are outdated and showing signs of age.
The positives:
The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
The gym is spacious with plenty of room to move around, which I really appreciate.
There is a wide variety of machines available, so you rarely have to wait to use one for a specific exercise.
The equipment is diverse, catering to different workout needs.
There is a strong community of experienced bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts to connect with.
The gym is open 24 hours, providing flexibility for all schedules.
Wonderful gym, top-notch equipment variety, spacious enough for multiple activities at once, plenty of convenient parking. So why not 5 stars? Sprint cycling classes were my go-to calorie-burners until they axed the expanding Saturday morning class and dismantled the most fantastic bike room in the DMV... Quite perplexing, I must say...
I do apologize, but the gym was quite messy with paper towels scattered everywhere. The weights were not reracked and I had to search around to locate dumbbells. Despite that, you offer a wide range of equipment and the space is very spacious which somewhat compensates for it, but I believe there is a need to focus on maintaining cleanliness and enforcing reracking of dumbbells/plates.
The workout was top-notch with my trainer Wiz. He's a proper legend. The facilities, on the other hand, could do with some improvement. Half of the Stairmasters and treadmills are constantly out of order.
I've been frequenting this gym for 15 years now, and I absolutely adore it. It's my haven of tranquility. Not only does it boast a plethora of equipment, but also a wide array of classes, a stellar team, and a meticulously tidy workout area. Kudos to you, BG, keep up the splendid work! Cheers!
The sauna seating should be extended, there is no space for personal items in the shower area, and many repairs to gym equipment and fixtures are necessary. Additionally, kindly advise the female cleaning staff that men deserve equal privacy and respect as women. Thus, they should announce their presence when entering the male locker room, rather than coming and going as if our respect is unimportant.
During the recent visits, I have observed that the paper towels and spray are consistently not properly stocked at each station, the elevator is frequently out of order, and the equipment is frequently rearranged. In my opinion, all this movement and changes make the gym look worse than it was before.
Lovely spot. Lovely gym all in all. Staff are always super friendly, helpful, and on hand. Good range of kit. Decent number of squat racks. Treadmill always free. Decent-sized sauna.
Lost a star because it needs about twice as many dumbbells. Hopefully there's a plan in place to increase this number.
This gym is fantastic, offering everything one could hope for in a fitness center: a wide variety of equipment, relaxed atmosphere, great surroundings, and friendly people. However, I can't quite give it 5 stars because the equipment could definitely use some more maintenance. There have been occasions where I've had to adjust the seat multiple times due to missing bolts or worn-out grips and attachments. Additionally, it's worth noting that bringing guests isn't allowed here; you have to pay $10 for kids or $20 for adults per day if you want to bring someone along. Despite these drawbacks, it's still a top-notch gym.
I was a member since when the facility was located in Landover. Initially, I enjoyed the Capital Heights location, but in the last 3+ years, there has been too much clutter. I find myself wasting time trying to locate frequently used equipment that has now disappeared. I was informed that two pieces of equipment that I use regularly were sold. The gym now seems to have transformed into a meeting spot for the Gettho.
I 'aven't been in this gym since pre-pandemic, so yesterday was my first day back. A lot 'as changed. There is a lot of equipment that 'as been added, so much so it almost feels like overload. It felt crowded although there wasn't a lot of people in there. They changed out the movie room to a workout studio, and the large studio which held classes now 'as work out equipment in there and in the smaller back studio as well. Not sure if those are just training areas now or if classes are still 'eld. There is plethora of equipment that looks like it was bought from gyms that may 'ave closed down - very mix match but were in good condition. My only issue with that was the numbers were worn on some of the plates so I wasn't sure what the weight was. Staff was friendly as before. Women's locker room was a little dated, but appeared to be clean. I didn't go upstairs but I could tell some changes were made. I guess I will see 'ow things are the more we come. This was my first impression.
Didn't care for this place one bit, full of egotistical folk and I'm referring to the staff. I've been working out with a personal trainer for the past 5 years and wanted to increase my weights. One day, I decided to drop by and the atmosphere was off from the get-go. Nobody was welcoming; they'd just glance at you when you walked in and continue chatting amongst themselves. I will admit that I liked the equipment, some of which I had never seen before, but I didn't want to bother the staff to ask how to use them! You might end up in a live group chat with them!
Oh dear, had the most TERRIBLE experience yesterday on 3/19/24. Couldn't find a single tissue or towel to clean the machines ANYWHEREEEE. Searched high and low throughout the whole gym, upstairs, downstairs, near the treadmills, abs area, weights... even asked the cleaning staff but they were clueless. With all the viruses floating around, you'd think health and cleanliness would be top priority! Apart from that, it's an alright gym I've been loyal to for almost 7 years. Some stair masters are out of order, and quite a few other machines too. But all in all, it gets the job done, I suppose.
They 'ave tidied up the loo and the gym space. I reckon the staff could be a tad friendlier when you come in, 'cause I 'ave to greet 'em at the front desk first. There be one young lady at the front desk who's right friendly and gives ya a warm welcome. I reckon the spray bottles for wipe down the equipment contain just water, as I opened one and it ain't got any cleaning agent, just water. So I 'ave to fetch my own wipes.
