Del Norte Sports and Wellness: A Comprehensive Review

Del Norte Sports and Wellness, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, stands out as a significant player in the local fitness landscape. It offers a variety of amenities designed to cater to different fitness needs. However, based on numerous reviews and feedback from its members, the experience can be quite mixed.

Accessibility Features

One of the key features of Del Norte Sports and Wellness is its commitment to accessibility. The gym provides a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all members can access the facilities without barriers. This focus on accessibility is crucial in promoting inclusivity within the community.

Amenities Galore

Del Norte Sports and Wellness boasts a wide range of amenities, including an indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, steam room, and various exercise machines. Members have praised the spacious layout and cleanliness of the facility. However, some reviews indicate that there are issues with maintenance—specifically, when equipment breaks down, repairs can take an exorbitantly long time. Members have reported weight machines being out of commission for months, which can be frustrating for regular gym-goers.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

For tech-savvy individuals, Del Norte provides complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the gym. This feature allows members to stay connected while they work out, making it easier to track fitness goals or engage with online classes.

Membership Policies

A membership is required to access the facilities, with various pricing structures depending on commitment length. However, potential new members should approach this with caution. Some users have shared experiences of being charged unexpectedly, such as billing for additional months after attempting to cancel their memberships. It’s essential to thoroughly understand the terms before signing up.

Planning Your Visit

Before visiting, it's recommended to plan your workout schedule, especially if you intend to use specific areas like the pool or group classes, which may have limited availability. Feedback indicates that classes might be booked, so early planning can help avoid disappointment.

Overall Experience

While many appreciate the amenities offered at Del Norte Sports and Wellness, the general sentiment regarding customer service is concerning. Multiple reviews point to a lack of motivation from the staff, with some describing them as unhelpful or rude. This has led to a perception that the gym prioritizes profits over member satisfaction.

In conclusion, Del Norte Sports and Wellness is a well-equipped fitness center with excellent amenities and accessibility features. However, potential members should weigh the pros and cons, particularly concerning customer service and membership policies, before committing. Whether you’re looking for a place to swim, lift weights, or partake in fitness classes, Del Norte has potential, but experiences can vary widely.

So, my partner and I welcomed a little one into the world and had to pause our gym membership at Athletic Club. They assured us it wouldn't be an issue and that they'd suspend our account. Lo and behold, they still went ahead and charged us $15 every month, despite the fact we weren't even setting foot in the place.

But here's the real kicker - when we finally decided the cost was too steep and wanted to cancel, they made us cough up payment for not just that month, but the next one too! Two whole months of us not making use of their facilities (which, I must say, were pretty decent, especially at the Del Norte location). Their treatment of us has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I can confidently say I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. It's just not a trustworthy business, plain and simple.
Mia Mitchell (6/13/25, 10:16 PM):
I must say, canceling my membership at the Athletic Club was quite the ordeal. The representative assured me that I could easily freeze my account with no issues and cancel at a later date. However, when I attempted to do so, the manager was incredibly rude and dismissive, claiming that I owed payment for an additional 2 months beyond the contract terms. To make matters worse, when I contacted corporate customer services, the woman on the other end of the line actually chuckled at my predicament. Needless to say, I have no intention of ever paying them or setting foot in that place again. Good riddance!
Joan Gutierrez (6/12/25, 10:31 PM):
Absolutely love the del Norte location! The pool and gym are top-notch. My daughter used to have a blast at their camps when she was little, and now she's taken up a summer membership to get her workout and swim on. We're big fans! Would definitely recommend.
Doris Diaz (6/12/25, 4:57 AM):
There are 2 pools, one indoors and one outdoors, basketball courts both inside and out, 3 levels brimming with machines and resistance bands, with the ground floor packed with free weights, treadmills, and a handful of cycling machines. The staff are extremely friendly and maintain a spotless facility along with the locker room.
Catherine Walker (6/11/25, 8:00 PM):
Absolutely love this club! The Del Norte spot is top-notch. They've got a fantastic indoor pool, a splendid outdoor pool, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms in each changing area. Impeccably clean and organized. Usually no trouble getting a lane, but now they offer the convenience of reserving one through their app.
Kenneth Thompson (6/10/25, 7:48 PM):
I absolutely adore the Athletic Club and its focus on sports and wellness. I've been a member for three years now, and I must say that this club is consistently immaculate, and the staff are always so welcoming and friendly.
Peter Ward (6/8/25, 10:24 PM):
I'm a new client and I must say, I'm absolutely loving it. The child care services are top-notch, as well as all the equipment available. Honestly, the child care facilities are what keeps me coming back here. The prices are a little steep, hence the 4-star rating, but overall, I'm totally smitten with this place.
Brandon Hayes (6/1/25, 3:17 PM):
The pools at the Athletic Club are truly invigorating and spotless! The locker rooms are also quite splendid, I must say!
Jerry Murphy (5/29/25, 11:31 PM):
This place is amazing! The array of free weights, dumbbells, kettlebells, and machines is top-notch. The cardio room is stocked with an abundance of bikes, steppers, and treadmills. And oh, let's not forget about the pools! What's even better is that children are more than welcome here!
Dorothy Rodriguez (5/28/25, 1:37 PM):
For the ultimate Athletic Club experience in town, Sports & Wellness truly stands out! The facilities are impeccably maintained and spotlessly clean. My personal trainer, Anthony Pressley at Del Norte, is a true fitness expert - the most exceptional fitness coach you could ask for! If you're looking to elevate your health and fitness to new heights, Sports & Wellness is the absolute foundation you need!
Abigail Lewis (5/27/25, 6:16 PM):
If you're a single parent on a budget, don't even bother coming here! I was trying to shed some pounds and was met with very rude employees. My child was feeling under the weather, so I couldn't make it inside. To my surprise, I was charged double without any prior notice. I simply can't afford to pay the extra fees; I had signed up for a fixed rate for a year, and it's only been less than five months since I joined. As a single mom, the person I talked to had the audacity to suggest I go find a husband! What on earth? I didn't choose to be single by choice! When inquiring about childcare options, I was ridiculed. The lack of respect from these people is astounding, and the managers are even worse! If you're looking for friendly service, definitely avoid this place.
Joan Henderson (5/26/25, 7:29 AM):
Not completely certain about the negative feedback - the representative clearly explained all the fees and expenses (at least mine did - perhaps they were more concealed in the past) when I enrolled. You receive discounts based on health insurance, age, military status, etc... so the monthly expenses will differ per individual.

It's a remarkable gym with abundant activities, and they have plans to expand it with more amenities. The staff is exceedingly amiable, there is ample space, gyms dispersed all over ABQ that you can access, and numerous classes are included with membership. I am tremendously content with it. Just inquire about and understand what you're committing to, and you should be fine.
Donald Martin (5/26/25, 12:15 AM):
They only care about your money. Cancelling a membership is a right mission and they keep charging you for multiple months. I gave a ring to the membership boss and left a voicemail, but never got a call back. My old man popped in to cancel, but since she wasn't around, he couldn't get it done! The outfit that manages them, wellbridge, only has eyes for your dosh! They are no help at all. Defined Fitness is a much cheaper option and childcare is on the house unlike at SportsandWellness.
Harold Cooper (5/25/25, 12:19 PM):
I've been a member for over 20 years, and until recently, I was a regular at the gym for muscle classes, spin classes, or yoga sessions. The quality of the classes has decreased in the last year due to the switch to Les Mills, which I find less motivating than an instructor who is passionate about their teaching. Many good instructors have been pushed out for not following the canned program, resulting in mediocre classes for me. However, a few dedicated instructors who prefer their own style are still holding on, and their high attendance shows that it's the quality of the instructor, not the corporate program, that keeps members coming back. The gym is beautiful, but with the increasing cost, it feels like profit is becoming the main focus. I might start looking for another gym soon.
Zoey Cruz (5/24/25, 3:00 AM):
Oh, mate, there's this cheeky lad over yonder at the Athletic Club. He's an absolute gem, a top-notch worker, you know? But it's a shame he's not getting a bump in his pay. And don't even get me started on Oliver, that bloke is just too cool for school.
Christina Davis (5/24/25, 12:50 AM):
A splendid array of classes, the facility is impeccably kept, and the instructors are top-notch.
Robert Hughes (5/23/25, 12:15 PM):
I was a member at the Riverside branch, so I decided to visit the del Norte branch. When I arrived, I spoke with Lauren from sales, who was quite rude. She mentioned that the fee was $30 but didn't bother showing me around or discussing membership options with me. I left feeling disappointed and frustrated with the lack of customer service. Is this the standard way of handling business at this location?
Donald Reyes (5/21/25, 3:41 PM):
This place is massive. The weight area is top-notch, with a multi-purpose room equipped with sled and weighted treadmill. They even have a steam room and sauna - everything you could ask for. The staff were fantastic too.
Louis Coleman (5/17/25, 10:17 AM):
Wow, everything has been great! The facilities are spotless and offer a lot of amenities. I enjoy the variety of activities available every day. The showers are fantastic and those warm towels are just so cozy. It feels like being in a top-notch spa but at a reasonable cost!
Roger Ross (5/15/25, 9:25 PM):
I happened to register for a summer-only membership at the Athletic Club. A friend then mentioned to me that despite being sold as a "summer membership," I still had to request its cancellation. In August 2022, I contacted them to terminate my membership, only to be informed that I must do so in person rather than over the phone. That same day, I went to the gym, where Rebecca, who was at the front desk, mentioned that all the managers were tied up in a meeting and thus unavailable to process cancellations. She took down my details and promised they would reach out.

Later that day, Mikayla called to apologize for the inconvenience and offered to only charge me for myself in September 2022, rather than the entire family. However, today I noticed that I was billed for the whole family yet again ($189). It is disheartening to see Makayla's promise not reflected in your system notes.

When I opted for a summer membership, I did so based on trust and the information provided. No one had mentioned that the membership wouldn't automatically end in August or that a 30-day notice was required for cancellation. It feels somewhat deceptive and desperate for money on their part.
