Planet Fitness Concord, California: A Comprehensive Review
When considering a gym, many factors come into play, including accessibility, atmosphere, and essential amenities like showers. Planet Fitness in Concord, California, presents an intriguing option for those looking to start or maintain their fitness journey.
Accessibility Features
Planet Fitness Concord features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a convenient wheelchair-accessible car park. These accommodations ensure that the gym is accessible for everyone, enhancing the overall experience for all members.
Atmosphere and Culture
The atmosphere at this gym is often described as positive and encouraging. Many members appreciate the non-judgmental vibe, allowing individuals to focus on personal goals without fear of being scrutinized. However, numerous reviews mention overcrowding during peak hours, which can disrupt the desired environment. It’s not uncommon for members to encounter long waits for equipment, particularly during busy times.
Cleanliness and Maintenance
Cleanliness appears to be a significant concern among gym-goers. Multiple reviews point out that the locker rooms, especially the men's, are frequently dirty, leading to an unpleasant experience. Issues such as overflowing garbage cans and inadequate cleaning of showers have been highlighted, with some members indicating that these problems have persisted over time. A lack of attention to cleanliness could deter potential customers.
Membership Requirements
A membership is required to access the facilities, with low-cost plans starting around $10/month. However, some members express frustrations regarding hidden fees and difficulties in cancelling memberships. It’s essential to read the fine print carefully to avoid unexpected charges.
Planning Your Visit
If you plan to work out at Planet Fitness Concord, it’s advisable to visit during off-peak hours to avoid the crowds. Early mornings and late evenings tend to be less busy, making it easier to use the equipment you desire without long waits.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, while Planet Fitness in Concord, California, offers an affordable and accessible gym option with a supportive atmosphere, potential members should consider the cleanliness issues and peak hour overcrowding. It’s a suitable choice for beginners and those seeking a non-intimidating workout environment, but a commitment to cleanliness and equipment availability remains critical for a better overall experience.

This establishment boasts a pristine atmosphere and a welcoming team. The membership fees are quite affordable. My only lament is the absence of a pool.
Joyce Ortiz (4/29/25, 6:26 AM):
I do a fair bit of traveling and frequently make use of planet fitness. It's quite apparent that this particular location is a tad understaffed. The space surrounding the free weights was littered with dust bunnies, and the weights themselves were in disarray.
Oh, and to top it off, while I was there, an altercation broke out between two individuals right in the middle of the gym.
Richard Hayes (4/28/25, 12:01 AM):
I am quite fond of this establishment and its staff, truly. The head manager is consistently pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. And the premises are maintained rather immaculately.
My one small grievance is that, as a Black Card member, I wish the duration on the hydration massage beds was slightly longer than what they currently offer.
Just yesterday, I visited the Planet Fitness on MacArthur in Oakland, and to my surprise, I enjoyed over 9 minutes on the bed! I expressed my gratitude to the staff there for the extended time, and they mentioned that all Planet Fitness locations should be providing the same timeframe.
It seems to me that my sessions at the Concord location fall short of that. If my recollection is accurate, then so be it... but I could swear I only receive 5 minutes on those contraptions.
Apart from that, I am appreciative of having this PF branch here. Thank you.
***Update 11/12/2016***
A short while ago, I inquired with the customer service representative at the front desk. He was not entirely certain, but he made a plausible assumption that hadn't crossed my mind: during peak times when the gym is bustling with a queue of individuals waiting to utilize the massage chairs or beds, the time allocated is kept shorter to accommodate everyone. That actually seemed quite logical to me. Perhaps the general manager can confirm or provide further insight soon? Let's stay tuned.
***Update 11/18/2016***
Mystery solved! I conversed with two representatives earlier before using the hydromassage bed. One of them informed me it was seven minutes, prompting me to mention my previous discussion with another individual at this gym and the timeframe presented to me at the MacArthur (Oakland) location. She clarified that the Concord location is operated as a franchise, whereas the MacArthur site is under corporate management. Two different protocols.
She also mentioned that I could simply request an additional round on the bed, if needed.
There you have it. Four stars have escalated to five!
Kathleen Roberts (4/27/25, 4:22 PM):
Hey there, mate! Although you were kind enough to give us a five-star rating, I must say that I am obliged to dock a few stars. None of our gear is connected to the telly, and those earbuds you mentioned are straight duds! I bought a pair for meself only to find out they were as useful as a chocolate teapot. Had to return 'em pronto!
We used to have a single hair dryer in the ladies' loo, but I reckon the lass at the front desk sauntered in and snatched it away. And those hydro beds? Absolutely knackered, mate. What's the point of forkin' out for a fancy membership if half the stuff promised ain't available?
And don't even get me started on the staff! One of them had a bit of an attitude, yeah? This place is supposed to be a safe haven, but instead, I'm feelin' like an unwanted guest. Didn't say a peep to 'em though, no need to go full Karen on 'em, right? 😒
Jack Brooks (4/27/25, 9:56 AM):
This place ain't clean at all, and the staff ain't friendly either. I nearly stepped in some vomit on the floor of the changing room, and when I informed the girl at the front desk, she just said "Eww" and walked off. The mess stayed there for over an hour. Seems like it'll take someone falling and breaking a wrist for the management to properly train their employees.
Sara Robinson (4/26/25, 11:05 AM):
CEASE FILCHING MONEY FROM ME! May I simply express my previous admiration for this establishment due to its cleanliness and reliable late-night service. However, I have since chosen to switch to City Sports, which is closer to my residence. Despite canceling my account last June, they continue to withdraw funds from my bank account. I have attempted to resolve this matter by contacting the manager multiple times and leaving urgent messages for them to return my call promptly. The manager, whom I believe is named Johnson, has failed to respond for nearly two months now. To my dismay, they have once again debited my account without authorization for the month of December. Beware, as there seems to be some sort of fraudulent activity occurring at this location! The staff working here seem indifferent to this issue. I possess receipts as evidence, but apparently, that is insufficient for them to rectify the situation. CEASE PILFERING MONEY FROM ME AND EMPLOY MORE COMPETENT STAFF MEMBERS!
Roger Alexander (4/24/25, 5:53 AM):
A cozy spot to get your sweat on. Always bustling, but plenty of room and equipment to utilize. Impeccably tidy gym.
Hannah Diaz (4/21/25, 5:51 PM):
If thou art seeking a budget-friendly establishment with lifting weights, this doth be a fine choice. However, should thy desire a place where the staff provideth average or above average customer service, I doth recommend looking elsewhere for a gym. I hath been a patron of this particular location for nigh unto 6 years. Instead of downloading their app, I manually check in using my phone number as they no longer issue key cards. This process taketh but 10 seconds at most, and the staff here seem to have an abundance of free time on their hands. A young lady adorned with spectacles saw fit to offer a cheeky retort, deeming the mere 10 seconds it taketh to check someone in as too burdensome. She had the audacity to label me lazy for not downloading their app - the irony! If the slight inconvenience of taking 10 seconds to manually check someone in doth lead thee to disrespect a customer, perchance a profession devoid of customer interaction would be more suitable. A poor attitude, lacking in character, and an even worse work ethic was displayed. Mayhap this young lady shall receive the reality check she so sorely needs ere assuming a position of greater importance.
There is another woman present who hath proven to be a trial to engage with. Each instance I checked in, she could not muster the common courtesy of addressing me. I would extend a greeting, only to be met with a scowl. When she wast prepared to input my number, she would snap at me as though I were a hound. She could not even utter "I am prepared for thy number, proceed." Nay, only snaps and disdainful glances. 'Tis of no surprise that this woman of middle age findeth herself in an entry-level role at a gym with such an attitude.
In sum, mine experience hither was satisfactory save for the lackluster customer service. I wouldst appreciate if these two individuals perused this critique and took it as constructive feedback, although tis but a hope. Two stars, my dear fellow.
Mark Kim (4/21/25, 12:53 PM):
Quite a splendid gym for those new to the scene, I must say. The gym places a strong emphasis on fostering a welcoming environment, free from judgement and intimidation. You'll find helpful pictures on each piece of equipment, making it a breeze to navigate without the need to seek assistance or fumble around aimlessly. Additionally, they provide a designated area equipped with a wall timer and numbered stations, making it easy to follow the suggested workout routine for the appropriate duration if you're unsure of where to commence.
The inclusion of a massage bed, chairs, and tanning booth adds a delightful touch of enjoyment. At $20 per month, it strikes me as a rather splendid bargain.
Nathan Jenkins (4/21/25, 8:04 AM):
My daughter, son, and I all really enjoy this gym. It is tidy and everyone appears to be focused on their own workout. No one is concerned with my weight except for myself, at least that's what I believe. Haha! Overall, it's a fantastic place to exercise without feeling self-conscious. I will keep working to get my chunky butt in shape. Haha!
Ethan Patterson (4/19/25, 4:39 AM):
So, this just happened. The staff seemed rather indifferent. A locker was broken into. I was escorted back to the locker room and there was a sign pointed out to me stating that Planet Fitness is not responsible for such incidents. Splendid.
Jennifer Thomas (4/16/25, 11:39 AM):
I just got meself a membership 'ere and the very next Monday they're closed, no sign on the door 'cept for 24/7. I don't 'ave very many days to go work out, what a waste of time. You can bet I'll be askin' for a refund, mate.
Teresa Patterson (4/14/25, 7:38 PM):
The staff here are just lovely! Although it's not a massive gym, they've got all the essentials covered. Would definitely recommend. Cheers!
Russell Carter (4/12/25, 12:56 PM):
I'm here every morning at 6am...most nights after 8pm...plenty of equipment. Staff is always friendly and clean. Great crowd of people as well.
Christopher Graham (4/10/25, 5:50 PM):
This establishment is not tidy, and the staff are lacking in friendliness. I nearly trod in vomit on the changing room floor, and when I informed the lady at the front desk, she simply said "Eww" and left. The vomit remained there for more than an hour. It seems that perhaps it will require a person to slip and break a wrist for the management to provide better training for their employees.
Samuel Clark (4/9/25, 8:53 PM):
I do reckon this establishment has air cooling, which is smashing 'cause my other gym doesn't. Decent variety of gym gear and contraptions, and it feels quite spacious. However, I'm not too chuffed with a couple of things. Firstly, the dumbbells increase in weight by 5 pounds, whereas at my other gym, they increase by 2.5 pounds, which not only makes progression easier but safer too. Secondly, I'm quite gobsmacked that they only have one leg press machine considering how popular it is. The loos are top-notch and pristine, with plenty of showers and lockers available. All in all, I reckon it's a rather swell gym.
Ethan Price (4/8/25, 4:27 AM):
Planet fitness is truly a fantastic gym for those who are just starting out, looking to get back into it, or seeking a laid-back gym atmosphere without the intimidation of gym enthusiasts, if you catch my drift. The price point is excellent considering all the services available.
Karen Gutierrez (4/7/25, 6:30 AM):
Whilst there were three staff members at the front desk, none were present among the equipment to enforce the mask mandate. Several individuals were exercising without masks. Given the severity of Covid, this poses a significant health and safety issue.
Virginia Diaz (4/5/25, 5:03 AM):
Planet Fitness is a splendid spot for a solo sweat session or to hit the gym with your chums and kin. The vibe is simply smashing with heaps of positive energy and motivation. They offer a cracking selection of weights including dumbbells, weight benches, and machines galore. You'll find gazelles, treadmills, rowing machines, and even showers for a refreshing post-workout scrub. If you fancy a bit of extra guidance, you can even work out with a personal trainer. It's an absolute gem of a place to whip yourself back into tip-top shape. Cheerio!
Gloria Ramos (4/3/25, 7:25 AM):
Well, I work at the gym, so my review might be seen as a bit biased. It's a fantastic spot for a workout. There's no judgment, and you're always greeted with a smile when you step inside. It's super clean (at least during my shifts). The staff is top-notch.
