I dunno why Planet Fitness sometimes gets such a bad rap. They're dead cheap ($10/mo), no contracts, and got a massive space. The app is top-notch and even has a crowd meter so you can suss out how busy it is at certain times of the day. Sure, things get pretty hectic during peak hours, around 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., but that's the norm everywhere, innit? The beauty of it is they're open 24/7, so you could pop in at midnight if you fancy.
They also offer quick 30-minute classes, probably more suited for newbies, which is great for getting the hang of using equipment or getting back into fitness. The classes are small, max five people, and led by a personal trainer. You book all this via the app, brilliant stuff.
My only gripe with Planet Fitness is they don't have a clock on the wall! 😂
Steven Brown (4/27/25, 1:40 AM):
Will gave me a great service, very attentive, welcoming, and friendly. I am excited to start a new membership. The gym is clean and has everything I need. Super convenient with plenty of parking.
Alexander Young (4/26/25, 1:36 AM):
I 'ad to give one star to leave me review. This place deserves 0 stars. The equipment is outdated and old. 'alf of the machines are broken and the loo is disgustingly unsanitary.
Timothy Roberts (4/25/25, 6:14 PM):
I did fancy the gym, you see, but I only started going after the others had given up on their New Year's resolutions, so it wasn't too packed. But now, it's way too packed for me to even snag a changing room or shower after my workout. So, I went ahead and bought my own gear to get my exercise done at home.
Ann Lopez (4/22/25, 6:49 PM):
Janae is the absolute best. I misplaced my headphones and reached out to lost and found, she tracked them down and returned them. Incredibly friendly and an all-around fantastic gym.
Jonathan Kim (4/21/25, 9:46 PM):
The gym is always packed, parking is limited, it's an underground gym so there are no windows, ventilation is poor so it smells musty and stuffy. Some machines are incomplete - like the drink holder missing its base so it can't hold your water bottle. The restroom doesn't have paper towels which is frustrating. Overall, not very impressed. If you have the option, the Rockville location is far superior.
Lisa Jordan (4/21/25, 6:11 AM):
I popped over from Spunk across the street because my buddies were part of this gym. In comparison to Spunk, this place is bigger, with newer and better-maintained equipment, and a wider variety of machines. They even offered tanning and a sauna for their premium members, which was pretty neat (even though I wasn't one of them, just so you know). It's probably the better option when looking at $10/month gyms. They were a tad too keen on creating a certain "atmosphere" though... I wasn't looking to shout like a powerlifter, but making gains requires a bit of noise, you know? While Spunk follows the same idea, they are a bit more laid-back about it, which I appreciated.
Cynthia Edwards (4/20/25, 3:43 AM):
I would highly recommend this place, 10 out of 10. The pricing is fair and clear from the start. All fees are fully disclosed on their website and when you sign up, there are no hidden charges. The gym is also very well-maintained.
Melissa Morales (4/19/25, 10:54 AM):
They 'ave refurbished the gym, but not much 'as changed besides the new wallpaper. A lot of the equipment 'as been removed and won't be replaced until sometime in March. This date seems to be constantly shifting. There ain't enough equipment for the number of people that come to this 'ere location.
Danielle Williams (4/18/25, 1:00 PM):
Splendid gym! Loads of equipment and a greater number of machines than most Planet Fitness locations. The establishment is incredibly tidy and housed in a chic 2-story building. The team is quite amicable and it has never been overly packed.
Jennifer Watson (4/17/25, 3:03 PM):
This gym is consistently packed – I've dropped by at various times and it's always bustling! The women's restroom is consistently unclean, with cockroaches spotted in the shower area, floors looking like they haven't been mopped in ages, and surfaces neglected. It's quite disheartening. Additionally, certain front desk staff have been known to deny some paying members access to the black card perks.
Victoria Collins (4/13/25, 4:57 PM):
My initial experience was rather disappointing, as I found myself waiting for machines for over an hour due to others lingering excessively. Some individuals were using the equipment while watching YouTube videos for extended periods of time. There seemed to be a lack of staff intervention when people wrongly claimed machines that were not actually in use. The atmosphere felt less focused on fitness, with some members using the gym more for socializing rather than working out. Moreover, the massage chairs were not working properly, and the absence of complimentary towels in the bathrooms added to the inconvenience. The membership fee seems to align with the level of service provided, given that this gym is a more budget-friendly option. Considering these factors, it might be worth exploring alternative gym options beyond Planet Fitness for a more satisfying fitness experience.
Christopher Myers (4/12/25, 3:57 AM):
It felt jolly good being back in the gym, all the gear was spick and span, and the staff were ever so pleasant. Cheers!
Scott Baker (4/10/25, 8:25 AM):
It's not in the best condition, you know? Some machines are out of order, and it's a bit warm, even though it's 11 pm. I reckon being in the basement keeps the heat in, right?
Nevertheless, I'm rating it a 4 simply because it's super handy being open 24 hours a day.
Madison Myers (4/9/25, 3:17 PM):
This place is fantastic, I must say. The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. The gym is immaculate and very well kept. The men's locker room could do with a bit more attention, but overall it's a top-notch spot.
Austin Taylor (4/1/25, 5:30 PM):
Brilliant gym! This was my initial foray into gym culture and the experience was absolutely top-notch. I'm set to relocate soon and without a doubt, will be carrying my membership over to Germantown. The only gripe I have is this - every visit (twice weekly, Mondays and Fridays, and even Saturdays) ALL, and I do mean every last bench press machine was occupied and REMAINED so. It never failed. Perhaps establishing a time limit or procuring additional machines could solve this issue.
Leonard Jenkins (3/30/25, 5:42 PM):
The gym is the worst place to exercise, some of the staff members are quite impolite. I brought a guest with me and requested a massage chair for their use only, but they declined to allow my guest to enjoy a massage.
Judy Ortiz (3/29/25, 10:21 PM):
A few treadmill machines 'ave broken down for WEEKS on end, and no repairs are in sight. One would think a place like this would 'ave a deal with a repair company, especially during the summer months when usage is 'igh. Instead, they seem content to jus' slap a 'not working' sign on whatever breaks down with no indication of when it'll be fixed.
Fans are NOT cleaned regularly.
The disinfectants they use are more watered down than those all-inclusive alcoholic drinks you get at resorts (and trust me, those drinks are rubbish 😆). They make a big show of cleanin' surfaces, but I can assure you that all the germs are probably laughin' at them like, 'What are you talkin' about, Wallace?'
Now, as for the cost, it's quite reasonable, but if you're lookin' for QUALITY, you'll 'ave to fork out more dosh and go elsewhere, which is exactly what I'm plannin' to do.
Anthony Morgan (3/29/25, 2:30 PM):
I've been using these alternative locations while they renovate my home club. Always reliable. There seems to be more faulty equipment here, but there are plenty of options to get your workout in.
Jean Howard (3/28/25, 6:35 PM):
I cannot recall a time when I felt so embarrassed. The first instance I walked into the White Oak location to inquire, Cindy was at the desk, and her lack of customer service is why I decided to sign up online. Today, March 14th, marks the third time I've had a negative experience. Please review your recording from 8:00 pm. As I entered the White Oak location and accessed my PF app, I noticed that my scan did not register. Cindy never greeted me or offered assistance. (Check your video footage.) After struggling with the app while seated, I inquired if there was someone else who could help me. Mark and another female staff member eventually appeared. I explained to Mark that the app was indicating a payment in progress. I wished to pay using my debit card linked to the same bank account where the funds are withdrawn. I left and retrieved my Navy Federal debit card. Upon returning, Mark was unhelpful and somewhat abrupt. I went back to my seat and continued to struggle with the PF app. I opted to use the debit card to expedite the payment process. Finally, my access was granted as my black card appeared on the app. I scanned it and proceeded downstairs. At that point, my goal was to attend prayers given the amount of time I had lost. Today is Friday, March 14th... my $50 payment is due on Monday, March 17th.
While in the shower, two female police officers waited by the curtains, while a male officer stood outside the bathroom, and another male officer was upstairs. Never have I felt so humiliated and deeply traumatized.
INCIDENT #2500072887
BANNED 1 YEAR: DISORDERLY: FAILED TO PAY MEMBER FEES.
An hour later, I received a document with Mark's name stating that my next billing date is March 17th and I have access to the gym until April... all following the significant embarrassment caused. It has been four hours, and I am still flustered and anxious. Please cancel my subscription, and you MUST clear my name. If necessary, this matter can be taken to the courts.
