Equinox Sports Club Washington, D.C.: A Closer Look

Equinox Sports Club in Washington, D.C. is marketed as a premium fitness destination, but many members have expressed concerns regarding the facilities and overall experience.

Amenities and Accessibility

This club boasts a variety of amenities including a swimming pool, basketball court, sauna, and extensive workout equipment. The wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park are steps towards inclusivity, making it easier for all members to enjoy fitness. Additionally, there are wheelchair-accessible toilets and showers available for those who need them. However, despite these offerings, many reviews highlight serious issues with maintenance and cleanliness. The locker rooms and showers have been described as needing urgent attention, with reports of unclean conditions that include "hair-laden lockers" and filthy restrooms. This has raised concerns about the overall atmosphere of the gym, which should reflect its premium pricing.

Customer Service Dilemmas

Many individuals have noted that while some staff members, such as personal trainers, provide excellent service, the customer service from management leaves much to be desired. Reports of unresponsive staff, particularly concerning membership inquiries, cancellations, and facilities issues have been persistent. Members have felt ignored when raising legitimate concerns, leading to frustration among patrons paying upwards of $200 per month for memberships.

Facility Conditions

Despite its luxury branding, feedback indicates that the condition of the facility does not align with expectations. Broken equipment, particularly in the cardio and strength training areas, has been a frequent complaint. The layout is criticized for being inconvenient, with essential equipment distributed across multiple floors, resulting in awkward transitions between workout areas. Moreover, the clubhouse's sanitary conditions have been called into question. Complaints regarding standing water in showers, mold, and lack of basic hygiene products like hand sanitizer are prevalent. The cleanliness of the sauna and steam room has also been a subject of concern, with many expressing dissatisfaction regarding their maintenance.

Member Experience Highlights

While there are substantial critiques, members have praised certain aspects of Equinox Washington, D.C. The presence of highly skilled trainers has been a highlight for many. For instance, personal trainer Corey Belin has received accolades for his tailored training sessions, helping members achieve significant fitness goals. Some patrons appreciate the sense of community and friendly atmosphere fostered by certain staff members, making their experiences at the gym enjoyable despite the overarching issues. Furthermore, the variety of classes offered, from yoga to high-intensity training, provide members with options to stay engaged and motivated.

Conclusion: Is It Worth It?

While Equinox Sports Club Washington, D.C. offers some attractive amenities, the numerous grievances regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service raise questions about its value. Potential members should carefully consider these factors before committing, especially given the high monthly fees. For those seeking a truly luxurious gym experience, it may be wise to explore other options in the area.

$80 for a solo member's guest pass is an absolute rip-off. Other than that, an absolutely fantastic club.
Noah Kelly (4/25/25, 1:38 AM):
I was a member at this gym for around 3 months and had some training sessions with Corey Belin, which I thoroughly enjoyed! He listened to my goals and coached me effectively throughout. Proper form is crucial for me, and he was very attentive to this aspect.
Angela White (4/24/25, 5:48 PM):
The staff is quite friendly and the atmosphere is delightful. Executive guests can enjoy complimentary parking at the Ritz Carlton, with a discounted rate of $4 for a 3-hour stay.
Jordan Lewis (4/22/25, 4:46 PM):
The facility is in a right state, I tell ya. The doors in the ladies' loo ain't got no locks, and there's mildew all over them shower doors. The boxing gloves stink to high heaven, and the mats have a foul odor too... Blimey! There are much better places to work out in the area, I reckon.
Aaron Murphy (4/21/25, 7:58 PM):
I had a splendid stay-cation for my birthday at the luxurious Ritz Carlton this past weekend. I decided to pop by the gym for a bit of cardio, and that's when I met Corey, an enthusiastic and exceptionally friendly personal trainer. He persuaded me to ditch my usual routine of walking and scrolling through social media for a complimentary personal training session with him.

When Corey asked which part of my body I preferred to focus on, I should've said abs, but truthfully I admitted it was my legs. He then guided me through an incredible leg workout called Sore Six (if I recall correctly).

The session was both challenging and enjoyable. Despite lasting just 20 minutes, it turned out to be the most effective workout I've had all year.

What truly stood out was Corey's willingness to accommodate me even though I wasn't an Equinox member. When I mentioned this, he simply replied, "No Problem," and promised to email me the complete workout we had done so I could continue it on my own. True to his word, I found the workout and a cardio routine waiting for me in my inbox this morning.

Corey is undoubtedly the finest personal trainer I've ever had the pleasure of working with. If you happen to be staying at the Ritz Carlton and fancy a quick, intense, enjoyable, and motivating workout, don't hesitate to request Corey.
Eugene Martinez (4/21/25, 7:15 PM):
This is the first time I ’ave left a review for anyfing in me life. I moved out of DC and decided to cancel me membership (after bein' a member for multiple years), and it 'as been impossible.

I 'ave called 6 times, and every time someone at the front desk says the manager is too busy to speak but that they will make a note in me account so that a manager gets back to me. So far no one 'as. If you’re a luxury gym you should be providin' luxury service…

Anyways, thought I’d let everyone know that the customer service at this location is 'orrible.
Judy Miller (4/17/25, 3:13 AM):
Great variety of workout classes and a pleasant gym environment. The basketball and squash courts really stand out. Not as upscale as some other Equinox locations.
Grace Diaz (4/16/25, 10:48 PM):
Broken, faulty, old equipment. None of the treadmills or bikes are functioning. It's quite a challenge to reach out to the management.
Amelia Howard (4/16/25, 11:36 AM):
I'm updating me review to let ya know that me previous review still holds true. The facilities be in a severe decline. The swimmin' pool has been out of service for over a month now. One toilet in the women’s loo has been broken for months. A major water leak started durin' Pilates class today (have a gander at the snaps). What you're payin' for here doesn't match up with the rubbish facilities and buildin' that is practically fallin' apart.
The loos are also filthy and lackin' basic supplies.
