The amiable owner at Stanford is exceedingly knowledgeable and decidedly hands-on in his approach.
Dennis Henderson (4/29/25, 7:50 PM):
I popped down to the climbing centre for a fifth birthday bash. The little ones had an absolute blast, and the instructors were top-notch belayers!

Came back for another round!
This go-around, we organized a sixth birthday celebration for our lad. He and 13 of his mates tackled the walls together, having an absolute whale of a time. Scaling heights, facing fears, and soaking in good vibes – absolutely priceless!
And those belayers... Superbly helpful and always going the extra mile! Massive kudos to the trio who looked after us today!!!

I was quite keen to give this place a go after hearing glowing reviews from my beau who had visited about three years ago. We finally found the opportunity to visit, so we gathered our equipment and made our way over. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very polite staff member who, on a Sunday just past midday, seemed to be the sole person manning the floor. I appreciate that it wasn't a particularly busy time of the weekend and that level of supervision is usually sufficient - however, we were unable to obtain belay certification, which limited our access to the gym. This was tolerable until we saw the condition of the bouldering section. Only a third of the bouldering area was usable, while the rest was in various stages of repair. As a result, we could only utilize a small portion of the extensive gym that had been advertised. One of the main reasons I was excited about visiting Carabiner's was the highly-rated top-roping and the substantial pillar in the center of the gym. Even if we had been belay certified, there were only two routes up that pillar.

The overall state of the gym was another matter altogether. The padded floors were uneven, making walking slightly awkward. Numerous holds were not properly secured to the wall and were shifting or spinning when used - in some areas, the walls gave way a bit too much for comfort when bearing your full weight. Moreover, there were multiple individuals walking around in street shoes within the climbing area.

On the bright side, the locker rooms were neat and orderly, which was a positive aspect. However, the drinking fountain only trickled water... leaving us thirsty.

Since I couldn't experience the top-roping, this review focuses on the bouldering and facilities of the gym. I suspect I wouldn't rate the quality as 'good' if the condition of the top-roping area parallels that of the bouldering section. Just bear in mind that most of the images on the website were likely taken when the gym was relatively new... and time has not been kind to this place; the overall ambiance felt rather dingy. The staff, the one individual we interacted with, was very pleasant, but the extent of disrepair was overwhelming, prompting us to depart within 45 minutes of arrival.
Teresa Scott (4/28/25, 1:36 PM):
Brilliant first experience rock climbing! We popped in on a bustling Saturday during the winter, and the staff were top-notch and incredibly helpful!
David Bennett (4/23/25, 4:35 PM):
Splendid! The young ones thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The staff are extremely friendly and mindful of everyone's safety. Plus, these chaps were remarkably patient with 2 rambunctious lads (ages 7 and 10). We shall certainly return next time we're in town. Cheers for a delightful day! 🧗‍♂️👏
Michael Lopez (4/23/25, 10:01 AM):
I absolutely adore this spot! There's a plethora of activities and classes to partake in. The sunrise yoga session is truly top-notch, and the spin class will definitely whip you into tip-top shape!

In July 2024, there was a different kind of review after Tyler departed... bring him back!!! Well, it wasn't great. Tyler had left, the AC was out, and the staff lacked the expertise to assist my grandson. They were understaffed, so nobody could aid my grandson in accomplishing what he wanted. A new girl was present and she regaled my grandson, who already has a fear of heights but is working on conquering it, with a tale of how she injured her arm and almost tumbled backwards while descending. This upset him greatly, as he is a high-functioning autistic 10-year-old, and he proceeded to have a full-blown meltdown. I requested a refund, received it, and promptly left. I only discovered what she had said to him once he had calmed down. He had been eagerly looking forward to the visit, with new shoes, harness, and gloves. He was left heartbroken for the remainder of the day. Regrettably, I will be patronizing a different rock climbing establishment in RI. A different, bad review since Tyler left... bring him back!!!

In July 2024, the same situation as described below with Tyler assisting Mason once again.

This establishment was fantastic! Tyler was outstanding, incredibly friendly, and attentive to my grandchildren. They are now keen on obtaining memberships. Additionally, they offer weights and treadmills. We had a wonderful experience.
Mark Rodriguez (4/23/25, 4:17 AM):
We 'ad a Birthday bash! The staff was top-notch and all the climbers got a month's worth free! It was a smashing experience.
Dorothy Graham (4/22/25, 10:04 PM):
What a fantastic climbing gym with a plethora of intriguing climbs. My son and girlfriend were absolutely thrilled by it.
Andrea Ortiz (4/22/25, 7:53 PM):

Brittany Butler (4/20/25, 8:58 AM):
Wot a splendid place! Steve and 'is staff do a bang-up job makin' sure ya not only 'ave as much fun as possible, but are as safe as possible while doin' it. I've been a regular since I found this little gem...
Ryan Butler (4/18/25, 9:58 PM):
I 'ave climbed at many gyms all around the world, mate. While this place might not be the newest, I must say the wall features are top-notch, unmatched by any other gym I've seen. The staff are all incredibly friendly, too. The bloke in charge, Steve, was there on a Sunday chattin' with everyone and gladly belayin' those who needed a spot. You can tell 'e loves this gym like it's 'is own flesh and blood. I would absolutely recommend giving this one-of-a-kind gym a go! Cheers!
Anthony Sullivan (4/14/25, 7:04 PM):
I've been frequenting Carabiners for nearly 2 years now, and it's been an absolute delight each time. Every member of the staff is remarkably amiable and well-versed. The route setting offers a wide array of styles and skill levels across all the walls. The walls themselves are awe-inspiring, boasting some truly unique features you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. The ambiance in the gym is fantastic every day, thanks to the members and staff alike. It's undeniably a fantastic spot to visit with friends, family, or even solo.
Jerry Williams (4/14/25, 12:01 AM):
Carabiners is a fantastic spot for families to hang out and have a good time. The staff are super knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to providing training, and they're always on hand to assist anyone in need.
Katherine Wilson (4/13/25, 9:53 PM):

Timothy Gonzales (4/10/25, 11:03 PM):
Marvelous climbing walls with a plethora of auto-belay, top rope, and lead climbing choices. Abundant bouldering options on offer as well. The staff are all amiable and top-notch instructors.
Alexander Reyes (4/7/25, 5:21 PM):
This is the indoor rock climbing spot for all you climbers in the New Bedford area. The team is friendly and they're managing the pandemic like pros! It's not always packed, and their auto-belays and bouldering walls are usually good to go whenever I pop in.
Nancy Nguyen (4/7/25, 8:14 AM):
This climbing gym is absolutely brilliant!! One of the finest around with some of the tallest indoor features I've come across in my travels. They offer a fantastic assortment of elements. The team is consistently helpful, welcoming, and well-informed. The proprietor, who is just a top-notch individual, can often be found in the gym, interacting with everyone. We frequent this place whenever we're in the vicinity (we reside in the NYC area). It's suitable for all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned climber, there's something for everyone; don't miss out on the Bouldering section for a serious workout.
Wayne Richardson (4/6/25, 2:17 PM):
First time popping in, the staff was really helpful, showing us the ropes on how to use the gear. Definitely planning on coming back for another climb!
Harold Hernandez (4/6/25, 1:14 PM):
I popped in just to pick up a carabiner and was assisted by a super friendly lad. The price of my purchase seemed reasonable. But I was gobsmacked when I walked in and glimpsed the array of goods they have on offer! It all looks jolly good fun and certainly something I'd fancy trying out with a group of mates sometime. They've got a right lot to offer here and it seems like a cracking spot for hosting a birthday bash or even a stag or hen do! Cheers!
