As a college student who's back in Bethesda for the summer, I decided to give One Life a try simply because it's the nearest gym to me. However, I have to say that this place seems to be overcharging its customers. Paying $80 a month doesn't seem justified given the subpar equipment and limited availability – with only 4 benches in the small weight room. While I can manage to get my workouts done here, the price tag just doesn't seem reasonable.
Comparing this to my experience in Tampa where I attend school, my go-to gym, Crunch Fitness, only charges $10 a month. Not only is it significantly cheaper, but it also offers access to all Crunch locations in Florida with top-notch equipment and plenty of options. It feels like One Life justifies its high cost with classes and personal training, which many students like myself probably won't even use.
Considering that a large portion of their clientele consists of college and high school students, it would make sense for One Life to offer a more affordable option. The $80 monthly fee feels excessive and takes advantage of those who don't have many alternatives for working out.

This gym 'as everythin' I need!
Convenient spot, wide range of strength trainin' and cardio gear, swimmin' pool, professionals and carin' staff, and a full selection o' group exercise classes as well as personal and small group trainin'.
Included lockers, showers, steam room and sauna, and whirlpool. Also included parkin' in the garage under the buildin' as well as in the lot nearby.

What a tidy gym! I must say, I thoroughly appreciate one of the front desk attendants, Catherine. She's an absolute HOOT and never fails to inquire about my well-being and strike up conversation! We could do with more individuals like her at the establishment. She is truly EXCEPTIONAL!

Fantastic gym! I absolutely adore the BodyPump sessions and the convenience of reserving a swim session through the app. If you avoid the busiest times, you can often have a whole lane to yourself for a 30-minute swim. The staff and fellow gym-goers are super friendly, with a diverse mix of retirees, working professionals, and high school athletes depending on the time of day.

I decided to cancel my membership at this gym a couple of months before COVID hit because I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the pool (I once spotted a big gob of spit floating in the water) and the weight room was always jam-packed with equipment. The layout just didn't seem to flow well, if you ask me. Fortunately, there are more appealing options available in Bethesda.
Joan King (5/16/25, 11:27 AM):
One life fitness Bethesda is not safe at all, mate. Today my wallet got pinched from the gents' locker room. Absolutely cheeky theft, I tell you. Watch your belongings closely at that place!
Anna Kim (5/15/25, 7:04 AM):
Bethesda S&H is a top-notch spot for getting your workout in. The spacious layout, complete with two floors (one solely for cardio), offers plenty of room to break a sweat. While the pricing may be on the steeper side, it's a true reflection of the high-quality facilities.
The basketball courts could use a bit of a facelift, and when the gym is bustling, it can get quite crowded. Finding a spot to park your car might also prove to be a bit of a challenge. However, if you're serious about sticking to a regular gym routine, the membership fee is well worth it in the end.
Willie Harris (5/13/25, 2:23 PM):
They have indoor pickleball for when the weather isn't great. :-)
Peter Coleman (5/7/25, 12:56 AM):
I've been a member of the Bethesda Onelife fitness club for more than ten years now. It's truly become an integral part of my life and my community. The facility is expansive and unique, providing a wide range of fitness options from cozy workout areas to spacious classroom settings. From top-of-the-line resistance equipment to various court sports like basketball and indoor tennis, it offers a comprehensive array of options with modern and well-maintained equipment.
The staff and management have always been incredibly attentive, friendly, and supportive.
Gerald Parker (5/6/25, 7:33 PM):
I am absolutely thrilled with this gym. The team is outstanding and always on the ball. The coaches are well-informed and supportive, even if you're not directly working with them. I've been a member of around 4 gyms, and there's simply no contest.
Kevin Harris (5/5/25, 4:19 PM):
The staff at the gym are really accommodating and helpful. There's a wide range of equipment to use, so you can complete your workout without feeling crowded.
Larry Davis (5/5/25, 1:58 AM):
The most dreadful gym experience I have ever encountered. I used to be a member years ago, and upon changing jobs, I decided to explore the gyms in my new work vicinity. The sales representative I encountered did not seem particularly interested in my well-being at any point during our interaction. To my dismay, she charged me $21.49 for a single visit, whereas all the other gyms in the area offered complimentary trial sessions (Who would commit without experiencing the gym first?!).
After conducting thorough research, I discovered that this is one of the most expensive gyms in Bethesda, and the services provided do not justify the cost. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with boastful Sport and Health employees and consider visiting Washington Sports Club just around the corner!
Rebecca Smith (5/4/25, 6:33 AM):
I recently signed up for a trial membership at this gym and was provided with a card indicating the expiration date of my trial. However, three days before the supposed expiration date, I received an email from Eric stating that my trial had already expired. When I contacted them, Eric explained that there was a mistake with the date on the card and if I wasn't interested in becoming a full member right away, then my trial had already ended. Quite disappointing, to be honest.
The truth is, I was actually planning to start a membership later in the year once I recover from an injury. Despite this experience, I still rated the club two stars for their equipment variety and operating hours. However, I won't be returning here. It's important for gyms to offer trial memberships with clear and accurate information, and to stick to the agreed-upon trial period.
Paul Reyes (5/2/25, 5:49 PM):
On the whole, the gym is a decent sports club. The gym space is impressively large, but regrettably, there's a rather off-putting smell lingering throughout. The men's spa section also had an unpleasant aroma, with an absurd cleaning schedule of once a week for the steam room and sauna, far below acceptable safety and hygiene standards. The manager was quite pleasant – this is the sole reason why I've rated it 2 stars instead of just 1. On one occasion, my silver ring and towel mysteriously disappeared during a pool session. They really ought to focus on enhancing hygiene and safety measures. Some new gym equipment and a renovation would be greatly welcomed improvements.
Willie Ross (5/2/25, 3:00 AM):
I must say, for the cost of this membership, I had higher expectations regarding the clientele. The gym always seems to have weights scattered around the machines and racks, with treadmills that are dirty with some unknown liquid and lint in the cup holders. The staff are always friendly, but goodness me, this place is in dire need of some cleaning and updated equipment.
Gerald Baker (5/1/25, 9:47 PM):
The most challenging aspect of composing a review is determining which aspects of the "product" are most pertinent to potential users or buyers, such as cost, utility, user-friendliness, value for money, overall enjoyment, and so forth.
Reading a review poses its own difficulties in assessing the credibility of the reviewer, considering the lack of personal acquaintance and the subjective nature of opinions. It's all too common to encounter inflated praise from individuals who have never actually experienced the product or service they are endorsing.
That being said, after having the opportunity to frequent various health clubs across multiple locations, encompassing chains, budget hotels, upscale establishments, and YMCAs spanning continents, I can confidently assert that the Bethesda Sport and Health Club stands out as the premier facility I have ever encountered. Were I a resident of the DC metro region, I would undoubtedly become a member of this exceptional community and incorporate regular visits into my routine.
What sets the Bethesda Sports and Health Club apart? Quite simply put, everything. The range of workout and training options available is unparalleled, from a diverse selection of aerobic machines and specialized resistance training equipment to free weights, stability balls, along with amenities for swimming, tennis, squash, as well as a whirlpool, sauna, and showers for post-exercise restoration. While I did not engage the services of a Personal Trainer during my visits, I observed an impressive team of trainers whose expertise, motivation, and empathy were readily apparent. The Management, led by Mary Ann, and her attentive staff were always on hand to offer assistance, address queries, or promptly attend to any equipment adjustments. The cleanliness and maintenance of the club are meticulously maintained, with every machine consistently in optimal condition.
It is customary to provide constructive feedback even in the most glowing reviews; however, I am at a loss to pinpoint any areas for improvement within the Bethesda Sports and Health Club. They have set a benchmark against which all other health clubs should be measured. Whether you are a Bethesda local looking to kickstart a fitness journey or a seasoned gym-goer seeking excellence, a visit to this establishment is a must. I am confident you will not be disappointed.
Cheryl Collins (4/23/25, 1:41 PM):
I have had the pleasure of visiting some of the most exquisite gyms across the United States, and Bethesda Sport & Health stands out as one of the top-notch, exceptionally managed, and fully equipped clubs in the nation.
This establishment offers an extensive range of amenities tailored to meet all your health and fitness requirements. From cutting-edge fitness equipment such as machines, treadmills, stair masters, rowers, free weights, and Pilates apparatus to a swimming pool, tennis/squash/racquetball courts, and steam and dry sauna - they've got it all. The luxurious touches and attention to detail in their facilities create a soothing and inviting atmosphere that truly elevates the gym experience.
Beyond the impressive array of workout options, what truly sets Bethesda Sport & Health apart is the warm and welcoming demeanor of the staff. Their team of competent and approachable personnel, including management and trainers, are deeply passionate about promoting health and fitness. Their expertise has not only assisted me in understanding my body better but has also equipped me with the knowledge to train effectively and recover purposefully.
A standout feature of this gym is the diverse selection of fitness classes available. Led by highly skilled instructors, these classes are invaluable resources included in the membership package. If you are seeking a transformative fitness journey, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring all that Bethesda Sport & Health has to offer.
