Fitness 19: A Comprehensive Look at the Pittsburgh Location

Membership Required

Fitness 19 in Pittsburgh requires a membership to access its facilities, which includes a variety of workout equipment and areas tailored for different fitness levels. However, experiences among members indicate that issues with billing and poor customer service are common, as several individuals expressed frustration over unexpected charges even after cancellation requests.

Amenities That Matter

One of the appealing aspects of Fitness 19 has been its amenities, particularly the inclusion of child care services. Unfortunately, recent feedback indicates that these services will be discontinued, catching many parents off guard. For those dependent on childcare while they work out, this could lead to a significant inconvenience.

Accessibility

The gym offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, making it welcoming for individuals with mobility challenges. Yet, the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the facility, including restroom conditions, have raised concerns among users about safety and hygiene standards.

Planning Your Workout

Members have noted that while Fitness 19 offers a range of equipment suitable for various workouts, issues with broken machines and lack of cleanliness can detract from the experience. Planning ahead for peak hours is advisable, as the gym can become quite crowded, impacting access to some machines.

Child Care Services

Previously praised by many members, the child care service provided a significant advantage for parents looking to maintain their fitness routine. However, the recent announcement of its termination creates uncertainty for families who relied on this benefit.

Maintenance and Cleanliness Issues

A recurring theme in member reviews is dissatisfaction with the gym's cleanliness and maintenance. Reports of dirty equipment, broken machines, and unsanitary restrooms highlight a pressing need for improved upkeep. The condition of the gym's facilities can greatly affect the workout experience and member satisfaction.

Conclusion

While Fitness 19 offers an affordable rate and a generally friendly atmosphere, there are significant areas for improvement, especially regarding customer service, maintenance, and cleanliness. Prospective members should consider these factors when deciding whether this gym aligns with their fitness goals and expectations.

Roy Ross (5/30/25, 1:27 PM):
I must say, the staff here is so friendly and laid-back. Every time I walk in, I feel completely at ease and welcomed, not to mention how pristine everything always is! At 54, I was a bit hesitant about personal training, but since joining, thanks to my personal trainer Henry Jacobetz, I've never felt better! It's only been two months, and I can't wait to see what the next year holds. If you're a member or just someone in search of a gym, I wholeheartedly endorse personal training here!
Chloe Flores (5/30/25, 9:00 AM):
Impeccably kept facilities. The staff is welcoming and approachable. The machines are a tad tightly spaced, and the free weight section feels a bit compact. Additional fans would be much appreciated, particularly near the front where the treadmills are located.
Stephen Adams (5/28/25, 11:53 PM):
The gym is spotless, the staff is super friendly, and the climate control is top-notch. Plus, there's a wide variety of machines to choose from!
Charles Lopez (5/27/25, 9:04 PM):
Fitness 19 is absolutely brilliant, I just adore the ambiance.
Jason Gomez (5/27/25, 12:47 AM):
I absolutely adore this place! The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Kayla is my current trainer, and she not only keeps me pumped up but also makes sure my workouts stay engaging and demanding. The fact that they provide childcare is a massive plus for me as I'm shedding off the extra pounds gained during my pregnancy.
Gary Hall (5/26/25, 6:22 PM):
This establishment is brimming with top-notch gym equipment and oh my, the attractive gentlemen working out here are a sight for sore eyes!
Cynthia Reyes (5/26/25, 1:34 AM):
A delightful ambience for sweating it out and a staff that's as friendly as can be.
Steven Lewis (5/23/25, 4:32 AM):
The gym ain't usually too packed which is brilliant! The other members are so friendly, as are the staff. It would be ace if they had showers, but I live so near it's not a biggie. The main downside is its closeness to Little Ceasars, which always tempts me to slack off on my workout (not that a bit of pizza every now and again is a bad thing).
John Gomez (5/19/25, 9:43 AM):
Amy, the manager, is a delightful lady who treats everyone with kindness. Despite being a middle-aged Chinese woman who may not fit the typical gym-goer stereotype, she still shows me respect and warmth without any judgment.

When it comes to pricing, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the membership costs are very reasonable at $25 per month plus a $19 Dues Lock-in Fee with no long-term commitment. Comparing this to other gyms like Planet Fitness with a $10/month fee but a 12-month contract or LA Fitness at $29.95/month with a hefty $99 initiation fee, the value here seems quite appealing. I had a negative experience with LA Fitness due to misleading advertising, so I appreciate the straightforward approach of this gym.

While there may not be a swimming pool like at LA Fitness, the atmosphere here is incredibly welcoming and friendly. The people at the gym are also very approachable, making it a great place to potentially make new friends.

I've also found the additional services offered here to be valuable, such as the body fat analysis included in the monthly fee (once a month), as well as the option to work with trainers and nutritionists to target areas for fat reduction. I recently started training sessions with Nadeem, and despite the intensity, I can already see the potential for great results. Nadeem is dedicated to helping you improve and focus on your weaknesses.

Overall, my experience at this gym has been very positive.
Jerry Wilson (5/18/25, 6:11 AM):
I frequented this gym for approximately three years, and while the facilities were satisfactory for the average workout enthusiast, my experience with a staff member named Anthony left much to be desired. Initially, he presented himself as amiable, but soon proposed a deal where if I recruited five new members, he would reduce my monthly fees by $5. However, even after enrolling a seventh individual, he failed to honor his agreement.

On another occasion, as I was departing Fitness 19, Anthony interjected to offer unsolicited fitness advice to both myself and a friend. Despite my previous experience with numerous gyms and a comprehensive understanding of fitness principles, he persisted in his unwanted guidance. Upon dismissing his suggestions, he adopted a confrontational demeanor, making derogatory remarks about a passerby outside the establishment. Insults were not only directed towards me but also towards the hapless individual, insinuating a familial connection based on their physical appearance.

Having been a member for three years, with less than half of that time spent actively using the gym facilities, I decided to terminate my membership. Despite having already paid for over two years' worth of membership dues, the staff insisted I still owed two additional payments – a demand I found unwarranted given my previous contributions.

While the gym itself is adequately equipped, the conduct of certain individuals detracted from my overall experience. If not for the satisfactory facilities, I would have been inclined to award a lower rating.
Bradley Ross (5/18/25, 1:13 AM):
This place is a safe space for all, where you can freely be yourself without fear of criticism or judgement.
Shirley Moore (5/17/25, 3:13 PM):
This establishment will NEVER eliminate your information from its marketing database once you depart and ask them to cease marketing to you. I relocated and terminated my membership, yet they persist in sending me unwanted marketing material regularly. Can you truly confide in this company with your personal details under these circumstances? The link for data removal is accompanied by a VIRUS, and three other virus scanners that I utilize indicate that the link poses a HIGH security threat. I deeply regret becoming a member of this establishment. There is an ABSENCE of responses to requests to cease marketing. It appears that there is a LACK of concern for anything within this organization.
Martha Brooks (5/16/25, 6:30 AM):
I am quite impressed with the vision of this gym, but there is room for improvement. Although they have made significant investments in renovating and expanding the downstairs area, maintenance and cleanliness seem to be lacking. There is a shortage of cleaning wipes for members to sanitize equipment, and proper cleaning doesn't seem to be a priority.

Furthermore, the layout of the newly remodeled space leaves much to be desired. The placement of the dumbbells in a cramped corner creates a crowded and uncomfortable environment. Additionally, there is a scarcity of cable machines on the second floor, and the only Smith machine available is in close proximity to a chest bench – which happens to be broken.

These minor issues may seem insignificant on their own, but when combined, they contribute to an overall disappointing experience. I urge the management to address these concerns promptly to ensure that their efforts in revamping the gym are truly worthwhile.
David Stewart (5/16/25, 5:23 AM):
You can snag some good deals on membership fees each month, but just a heads up, there aren't any showers and the restroom and changing areas are on the small side. It can get pretty busy during peak times, like after work, but it's much quieter during quieter hours.

I'm pleased with the improvements they've made to the ground floor, especially the shiny new weightlifting gear and the class studio. However, the first floor could do with some TLC as there always seems to be cardio machines out of order, and the TV screens on a few machines hardly ever function properly.
Leonard Long (5/13/25, 8:34 AM):
Don't forget to drop by and review that contract. Make sure to do your homework and keep in mind the 30-day notice required for cancellation. It's okay for the machines to break down without any notice, but customers need to give a 30-day notice to cancel their membership.
Kelly Hayes (5/12/25, 1:58 PM):
The gym is always easy to access. The staff are friendly and the facilities are spotless. It can be a bit frustrating when a few machines are out of order for maintenance, but I usually manage to find one that suits my needs.
Bryan Cook (5/12/25, 3:47 AM):
Fantastic gym, super easy to sign up for!
Rose Rodriguez (5/11/25, 6:09 PM):
Hey there, mate! Do you happen to know when the group classes will be kicking off?
Isabella Campbell (5/11/25, 5:49 PM):
Not safe during the pandemic and cannot recommend.

This gym has typically received a 5-star review from me for its value, equipment variety, and good operating hours. However, I cannot in good conscience suggest this establishment until they begin enforcing their own (and Pennsylvania's) pandemic regulations.

They have a sign at the entrance stating that masks are required, but this rule is not being followed as over half of the customers inside uncover their noses, and a quarter wear their masks improperly, leaving their noses exposed and using them as "chin diapers". This issue has been ongoing since the beginning of the year and has only worsened. Every time I visit, I spend half my workout dodging those who do not follow the rules.
Ethan Howard (5/11/25, 8:30 AM):
The staff is so friendly, the equipment is top-notch, and the atmosphere is really laid-back.
